We LOVE food at Cavendish Lodge! So much so that in 2015, after a year of inspections and thorough checking that our ingredients, meals and curriculum met very high standards, we became the very first nursery in London to be awarded the Children’s Food Trust Excellence award for our approach to healthy and delicious eating (find out more about the award here:
Good food and nutrition are our highest priority. We make sure that children get a healthy, varied diet and that mealtimes are relaxed and enjoyable occasions. They eat well and learn to socialise at the same time. Mealtimes are busy, chatty times. We don’t use high chairs – even for babies – and children sit in small groups and eat alongside staff members who are on hand to help. Our wonderful kitchen team work hard to re-vamp our tasty 4 week rotating menus twice a year to reflect the seasonal produce available. We also see cookery as another opportunity to learn and use produce that our little ones have planted, nurtured and grown themselves in our gardens to understand the processes involved from start to finish.
- All meals are cooked daily on the premises, using fresh and good quality ingredients
- As much of this as possible is organic and locally sourced
- Meat comes from a local butcher and can be traced back to source;
- Fish is sustainable and from a local fishmonger;
- Fruit and veg come directly from Covent Garden market;
- Milk is organic and delivered by the milkman.
We have breakfast first thing, soon after 8am followed by a mid-morning snack. Lunch is served at midday with an afternoon snack at 4pm and our team also keep tabs on how much our children have eaten throughout the day. We serve water with all meals as well as being available for our little ones throughout the day – keeping hydrated is very important!
Our current menus are posted weekly on our Facebook page and are available to pick up from either reception. Our younger children receive the same menu but in an easier consistency for them. We’re very happy to cater for specific medical conditions, allergies and religious requirements if necessary.
